Chairperson Carvey called the Green Space Advisory Board meeting to order at 6:55 p.m.

Park Ranger Lance DeVoe reported that Niswander staff members are continuing their work on the Harding Green Space property.

GSAB Administrative & Strategic Sub-Committee

Concept plans for individual Green Space properties.

Chairperson Carvey stated that he would hold a sub-committee meeting to develop concept plan ideas for both the Harding and White Green Space properties. Committee members agreed to meet on Thursday, April 6, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Parks Department conference room. The sub-committee members will present their ideas at the April 26th meeting.
Chairperson Carvey reminded everyone of the upcoming site visit to the Harding Green Space property scheduled for Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 5:30 p.m.

GSAB Communication, Promotion & Education Sub-Committee
Board Member Graves gave an update on the April 30th Discovery Hike and suggested that the Board schedule a volunteer clean up of the White property prior to the hike. Park Ranger DeVoe informed the Board that plans were in place and Niswander staff has set up a demonstration area at Riverbend Park to showcase stewardship projects. Board Member Janulis reported that she contacted the Avondale and Rochester schools back in February with details on the Discovery Hike that could be shared with teachers who may want to incorporate the event into their curriculum. Board Member Beightol stated that the Clinton River Watershed Council would have representatives at Riverbend Park for the event as well. Board Members finalized details of the event as well as ideas for additional publicity of the Discovery Hike. Board Member Graves will send an updated press release for the Mayor's Office to send out prior to the
event.

GSAB Property Nominations & Acquisitions Sub-Committee
Dr. Bowyer inquired about properties that the Board has previously recommended for acquisition but an agreement to purchase has not been reached. Chairperson Carvey, Mr. Dawson, Vice Chair Peterson and Park Ranger DeVoe reviewed the properties and gave updates on their current status.

GSAB Stewardship & Advocacy Sub-Committee
Vice Chairperson Peterson opened the discussion on a possible volunteer clean up event at the White Green Space property. Dr. Bowyer suggested that the event be held on Saturday, April 23rd since that is the day after Earth Day. Board Members discussed how best to address property encroachment as well as educating residents on city ordinances that require fines for dumping onto City owned properties. Dr. Bowyer inquired if the City had notified property owners that abut Green Space properties of the work that Niswander Environmental is conducting. Park Ranger DeVoe responded that the City has not yet reached out to neighboring property owners. After further discussion Park Ranger DeVoe agreed that the Parks & Forestry Department would mail letters to the neighboring property owners informing them of our ongoing stewardship efforts on Green Space properties. The Board agreed to hold a volunteer clean up of the White property on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Director Ken Elwert and Lance DeVoe agreed to work out the details of this event and will report back to Board Members with a flyer advertising the clean up.

Chairperson Carvey inquired about an annual presentation to City Council. Board Members and Dr. Bowyer discussed the need to keep City Council informed on stewardship efforts and GSAB activities. Chairperson Carvey suggested that Director Elwert, Park Ranger DeVoe, Vice Chairperson Peterson and Board Member Janulis work on a presentation for City Council that would be a recap of the year's activities as well as letting Council Members know what is planned for 2017. The Board plans to present to City Council at a November meeting.
