COMMUNICATIONS

Member Loebs was pleased to announced that Bordine's Nursery has donated ‎

a $‎25 ‎gift card for the Discovery Hike raffle‎. ‎They also supplied their logo for ‎

the flyer and banners‎.‎

Update on Green Space Boundary Signs‎

Mr‎. ‎Mike Hartner, Director of Parks & Forestry advised the boundary signs will ‎

be shipped on April ‎13‎, ‎2012‎. ‎Naturalist Lance DeVoe has obtained the GPS ‎

coordinates to determine the boundary points for installation from the City's MIS ‎

Department‎.‎

Update on Second Annual Discovery Hike ‎- ‎Saturday, May ‎19‎, ‎2012 ‎- ‎10 ‎

a‎.‎m‎. ‎to ‎2 ‎p‎.‎m‎.‎

Member Tilove gave an update regarding the Discovery Hike‎. ‎Seven ‎(‎7‎) ‎

terriffic prizes have been donated for the raffle‎. ‎Member Graham provided the ‎

flyer for review‎. ‎Publicity is targeted to begin April ‎10‎th‎. ‎Members are ‎

requested to send the flyer to organizations asking them to include it in their ‎

electronic newsletters‎. ‎Mr‎. ‎Hartner's staff will created an e‎-‎mail group for the ‎

2011 ‎hikers and send the flyer to invite them to attend the ‎2012 ‎hike‎. ‎The ‎

e‎-‎mail will highlight the new attractions scheduled‎. ‎His staff will also print and cut ‎

the raffle entry forms‎. ‎It was suggested to ask dentist offices for small bags for ‎

hikers to carry information brochures‎. ‎Overall costs for this event will be ‎

minimal thanks to donated time and services from everyone‎.‎

Member Tilove distributed a volunteer sheet used to determine positions and ‎

duties needed‎. ‎Assignments and duties were discussed and some positions ‎

were filled by GSAB members‎. ‎The remaining positions will be finalized at the ‎

April GSAB meeting‎.‎

The Board expressed their appreciation to Member Tilove and her steering ‎

committee for their fine job to date‎.‎

GSAB Property Nominations & Acquisitions Sub‎-‎Committee‎

Member Gauthier noted the Board would like to review parcels that were ‎

previously nominated but not recommended for acquisition to determine if any ‎

parcel should be re‎-‎evaluated and re‎-‎walked in June‎. ‎Mr‎. ‎Hartner stated he will ‎

present that information at the May meeting‎.‎

GSAB Stewardship & Advocacy Sub‎-‎Committee‎

Update on Spring Stewardship Project‎

Member Peterson reported that Naturalist DeVoe would be available on ‎

Saturday, April ‎21‎, ‎2012 ‎from ‎9 ‎a‎.‎m‎. ‎to noon to assist with the spring pilot ‎

stewardship project to pull the invasive weed called garlic mustard‎. ‎The project ‎

would consist of about five volunteers‎. ‎Since the project is prior to the ‎

Discovery Hike, the sub‎-‎committee will determine the best site to view other ‎

invasives called buckthorn and autumn olive along with garlic mustard and have ‎

posters depicting the weeds for hikers on how to recognize them and learn how ‎

to eradicate them‎.‎

Mr‎. ‎Hartner also suggested to have posters showing poison ivy‎.‎

Mr‎. ‎Roger Moore, City Surveyor, thanked everyone who voted for the grant for ‎

the Clinton River Watershed for Yates Park‎. ‎They won the grant by five votes‎!‎
