Committee hereby approves the Minutes of the Joint Meeting of July 22, 2004, as |
presented. |

COMMUNICATIONS
Chairperson Bryan Barnett briefly mentioned the Roadside Stand issue; which |
will be discussed at the next regular CDV Committee meeting noting the following |
: |
* Considered it necessary for CDV Committee members to be aware of this item prior to |
the meeting. |
* Ordinance amendments are approved by City Council. |
* Purpose of CDV Committee is to listen without debate. |
Committee members continued discussion including the following: |
* Papa Joe's Grocery Market is displeased with the current Ordinance. |
* Ordinance allows individuals to open Roadside Stands. |
* City Council amended Ordinance to allow greater latitude. |
Committee requested Council office provide information regarding a brief history |
of Roadside Stand issues pertaining to the Ordinance and changes made to the |
Ordinance. |

Ed Anzek, Director of Planning, provided an update regarding Residential Street |
Funding Millage Initiative as follows: |
* Eccentric editorial and article are very positive. |
* Oakland Press editorial and articles are very negative, noting the City's overstatement |
of need. |
* Expressed need to begin writing letters to the editors. |
* Letters for the Eccentric must be received by Monday to make Thursday's edition. |
* Ask Cumberland Hills, Shadow Woods, Brookdale Woods residents to write letters. |
* Letter should include key points: General routine maintenance, snow plowing and |
salting. |
Committee summarized town hall meetings as follows: |
* Reiterated firm and concise facts. |
* Presentation showed numbers accurately. |
* Allotted time for Questions and Answers. |
* Local residential testimony given. |
* Special Assessment Districts vs. Millage basically triples the cost to the resident. |
* Mr. Staran approved Town Hall meeting video and the tape is currently running on |
channel 55. |
Other informational distributions: |
* Distributed 1200 fact sheets. |
* Ordered additional 1500 copies of fact sheet. |
* Requests received from subdivisions to provide fact sheets. |
* Cumberland Hills Homeowners Association Board representing 516 homes is |
endorsing the millage. |
* Cumberland Hills will provide a massive mail out of flyers. |
* Cumberland Hills is seeking signs to post throughout neighborhood. |
* Shadowoods Homeowners Association is in support of millage. |
* Additional distribution of 1500 summary maps on local street network. |
* An information meeting is schedule for Brookdale Woods Subdivision. |
* Committee members were requested to call the Oakland Press regarding the "Sound |
Off" column indicating that you are a Rochester Hills resident and you support the |
millage. |
Committee members discussed possibility of failed millage. |
* Confirmed a Joint CDV and Financial Services Committee meeting will be needed in |
November. |
Discussed
YOUTH COMMENTS
* Youth members will be participating in the Rochester Christmas parade, the theme is " |
Magic of the Holidays", and the parade will be held December 5, 2004. |
* Youths secured a building to build float and invited Council to help. |
* Youth meeting is November 13, 2004, from 12:00 - 5:00 PM. |
ANY OTHER BUSINESS
It was noted that if Open Space Millage passes, the CDV Committee will schedule |
discussion on a future CDV meeting. If the millage fails, the Committee will need to do |
nothing. |
NEXT MEETING DATE
Regular CDV meeting on Thursday, October 28, 2004 |
Joint CDV/Financial Services to be determined. |
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to discuss, Chairperson Bryan Barnett adjourned the |
meeting at 6:08 p.m. |
