They are basically next to all the handicapped parking spaces. Mr. Morgan added |
that they presently have five 20-foot light poles in front of the store that have two |
1,000 watt luminaries on them. He believed Meijer's mistakenly placed them seven |
parking spaces away from the store, which they no longer do. because by the time |
you get to the front entrance, you are almost down to zero foot candles. They now |
place light poles in the first or second parking space to illuminate the driveway and |
provide more customer safety. One of the most common concerns they hear from |
their lines managers who close the stores is that people want more brightness. Their |
proposal is to take the five existing light poles and move them closer to the front of the |
store; put new 20 foot poles on the existing bases with one 1,000 watt luminary. That |
will provide brighter lighting at the front of the store. From a resident's standpoint, the |
building is close to 30 feet in height with 20 foot light poles at the front of the building; |
they do not light up the loading dock side or garden center side. The height of the |
building should adequately screen the lights from the houses in Wildflower. He passed |
around a photometric plan illustrating how the intensity of light decreases farther away |
Mr. Morgan identified the locations of the two small additions on a displayed |
rendering -- the 18,200 square foot addition and a 2,600 square foot addition off the |
front corner of the existing building for a dining room. He also identified the locations |
of the five existing light poles which currently have two 1,000 watt lights. They |
propose to move them closer to the building across the front and in the existing bases |
put one pole with one single 1,000 watt bulb. As part of the remodel of the building |
they are actually increasing the height of the building by putting a new cornice on the |
top of the building, which will increase the building height from 20 feet to 23 feet. In |
one area the building height will increase to almost 30 feet. With 20 foot light poles |
Mr. Morgan did not know how the light would get across the building into the |
adjoining homes. The lighting that would impact the adjoining homeowners the most |
he thought was at the backside of the building or that portion of the parking lot near |
Auburn Road that doesn't get utilized very much -- only because the berm, at 8 to 10 |
feet, is not tall enough, and those poles are 20 feet. |
