Proclamation in Recognition of the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America

Body
Whereas, the United States of America will observe the Semiquincentennial on July 4, 2026, marking a quarter-millennium since the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the birth of a nation dedicated to liberty, justice, and self-governance; and

Whereas, this momentous occasion provides an opportunity to reflect upon our nation's profound historical journey, celebrate the enduring spirit of the American people, and inspire future generations to uphold the values of democracy; and

Whereas, the City of Rochester Hills, and the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm embody the American spirit through their commitment to civic engagement, innovation, and the preservation of local history; and

Whereas, the Rochester Hills Historic Districts Commission is dedicated to protecting the architectural and cultural heritage of our community, serving as a tangible reminder of the generations who contributed to the development of both our locality and our nation; and

Whereas, the residents of the City’s three historic districts, Stoney Creek, Winkler Mill Pond and the City’s noncontiguous historic district, deserve special recognition for their tireless efforts in preserving the historical properties that anchor our community’s identity; and

Whereas, the America250 celebration is designed to include all citizens, encouraging local engagement through educational programs, historical preservation, and community events that foster a deeper understanding of our shared past.

Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved that I, Bryan K. Barnett, Mayor of Rochester Hills, and the Rochester Hills City Council on behalf of the City of Rochester Hills, the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm, and the Historic Districts Commission, do hereby proclaim 2026 as a year of America250 Commemoration in Rochester Hills.
