Proclamation in Recognition of the outstanding achievements of Megan Goethals

Whereas, Rochester High School Senior Megan Goethals is the nation's best high school girls cross country runner based on her phenomenal career and dominating season, where she shattered course records in nearly every outing; and
Whereas, Megan won the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championship and was named the 2009-10 Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year from a field of nearly 200,000 high school girls nationwide; and
Whereas, the Gatorade award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the racecourse; and
Whereas, in addition to her amazing performance on the track, Megan has maintained a 3.66 GPA in the classroom, is a member of the National Honor Society, volunteers on behalf of Meals on Wheels and on the U.S. Youth Soccer TOPSoccer program helping young athletes with disabilities.
Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Mayor and City Council of Rochester Hills hereby recognize and applaud Megan Goethals for her outstanding cross country career, and for her many achievements both as a world-class athlete and as a shining example of what a leader and student-athlete should be.
