Proclamation in Recognition of David Betts for his quick action, professionalism, and the assistance he provided in saving the life of Jim Males

Whereas, on May 1, 2006, while working out at Life Time Fitness, Jim Males went into sudden cardiac arrest. Mr. Males fell to the floor, did not have a pulse and was not breathing; and
Whereas, Rochester Hills Firefighter/EMT David Betts and Sterling Heights Firefighter/Paramedic Robert Young were at Life Time Fitness; and
Whereas, Firefighters Betts and Young took immediate action to begin lifesaving efforts to revive Mr. Males; and
Whereas, Firefighters Betts and Young, using their training and an on scene Automatic Defibrillator, were successful in their lifesaving efforts; and
Whereas, Jim Males was transported to the hospital and later released, having survived this life threatening incident; and
Whereas, it is highly expected that without the immediate intervention of Firefighters Betts and Young, Mr. Males may not have survived this emergency.
Now, Therefore, Be It Known, that the Mayor and City Council of Rochester Hills hereby recognize Firefighter/EMT David Betts for his quick action, professionalism, and the assistance he provided in saving the life of Jim Males.
