Proclamation in Recognition for outstanding acts of heroism by Carol Widger, Josh Simpson and Ian Taber in saving the life of Mary Schultz.
 
Body
WHEREAS, On the night of April 12, Carol Widger was not able to sleep and was working late into the evening; and
 
WHEREAS, While Carol was in her basement, she heard a neighbor's smoke alarm detector buzzing for what seemed like quite a long time; and
 
WHEREAS, Even though it was late, Carol decided to check on her next-door neighbor to make sure everything was all right; and
 
WHEREAS, Upon arriving, Carol saw flames and smoke in Mary's kitchen window; and
 
WHEREAS, After knocking on Mary's door, Carol ran home, called 911, and then proceeded to neighbor Josh Simpson's door, where she knocked and shouted for help.  
 
WHEREAS, Josh and Ian saw flames and smoke through Mary's kitchen window and without hesitation Ian immediately broke down the door and Josh was able to evacuate Mary to safety.  Once outside, Josh heard the reassuring sound of the emergency vehicle sirens.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT KNOWN, that the Mayor and City Council of Rochester Hills hereby recognize Carol Widger, Josh Simpson and Ian Taber for their outstanding act of heroism in helping to save the life of Mary Schultz.
