Vice Chairperson Funk called the Green Space Advisory Board meeting to 
order at 7:04 p.m.

COMMUNICATIONS
Vice Chairperson Funk distributed copies of a certified resolution, 
#RES0133-2009, regarding City Council approval of the Green Space 
Stewardship Program.  He encouraged members to retain a copy for reference.
PUBLIC COMMENT
Vice President Funk introduced Mayor Bryan Barnett.  Mayor Barnett 
expressed appreciation and thanks to GSAB members for their hard work and 
accomplishments.  Most recently noted was the preparation and acceptance of 
the Green Space Stewardship Program which was approved by City Council in 
May 2009.  Also noted were the recommendations and purchases of three (3) 
green space properties to date.
 
The Mayor provided an update regarding the RecycleBank Program noting that 
recycling efforts of Rochester Hills are astounding and show an increase of 
250% from May 2008.  The Green Space Stewardship Program now appears on 
the RecycleBank's web page under "Favorite Donations - Community 
Foundation of Greater Rochester".  The Foundation is the 501(c)3 charitable 
organization that will manage the donations to the Stewardship Fund.  The Fund 
description is also listed on the web page.  Recycle points totaling 1,025 
increments may be transferred to equal $10 donation increments to the Fund.  
Mayor Barnett welcomed suggestions or comments regarding the web page 
description.

Mayor Barnett introduced Ms. Tara Beatty, his chief assistant.  Ms. Beatty 
recently joined the Mayor's Office, which was reorganized to realize revenue and 
grant opportunities.  Her main priority will be grant writing.
 
Vice Chairperson Funk asked the Mayor for an update on pending properties 
recommended for acquisition. The Mayor commented that the City Council has 
been meeting very regularly on pending properties which is very positive and 
there generally is consensus on some items that may please GSAB.   The City 
is in a good position to leverage what the community has given the City to 
protect green space.

Mayor Barnett gave an update under PUBLIC COMMENT.   
 
Vice Chairperson Funk reminded members that GSAB will make a presentation 
and recommendation regarding nomination of the Clear Creek No. 5 parcel, 
located at Sheldon and Mead Road to City Council on Monday June 29th . All 
members were encouraged to attend.

Member Funk reported that the sub-committee is poised to move forward with 
recommendations on public relations regarding the nominated parcel at 
Sheldon/Mead Road.

Member McGoldrick had nothing to report at this time.
 
Mr. Mike Hartner, Director of Parks & Forestry stated that the owner of the 
nominated property located on South Boulevard remains interested in being 
considered for green space acquisition.  He assured the owner that the property 
remains on the pending list.

Support for a grant application to the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund 
(MNRTF) regarding property acquisition, approximately 39.3 acres, located on 
the southeast corner of Sheldon/Mead Roads

Vice President Funk explained that one of the requirements of the grant 
application was to receive public input.  GSAB meetings are public meetings 
that receive public input and are properly noticed to the public.
 
Mr. Hartner suggested that each GSAB member write a letter of support 
addressed to Ms. Linda Hegstrom, Grants Coordinator, Department of Natural 
Resources, to be included with the grant application.  Various support letters will 
be included from Michigan senators, a Rochester Schools biologist, an Oakland 
County environmental consultant to support the preservation of the flora, fauna, 
wildlife habitat, and natural features inventory.  The support letters will provide 
empircal data to render a high score for the property.
 
Member Funk opened the floor for public input regarding the resolution of 
support for the grant application for the nominated property located at Sheldon 
and Mead Roads.  Mr. Terbrueggen and Mr. Kranz, property nomination 
applicants, stated that they are in full support and offered to contact individual 
homeowners as well as the local homeowners association to generate letters of 
support.  With no further public input, Member Funk closed the floor for public 
input. The GSAB consensus was to support the resolution.

Whereas, the Green Space Advisory Board (GSAB) has reviewed, scored and 
recommended the acquisition of the property, approximately 39.3 acres, located at the 
southeast corner of Sheldon/Mead Roads; and
 
Whereas, local units of government are eligible to submit a matching grant application to 
MNRTF for land acquisition projects that protect environmental importance or scenic 
beauty; and
 
Whereas, GSAB, as part of their public meeting on June 23, 2009, received input about 
the MNRTF grant application;
 
Therefore Be It Resolved, that GSAB fully supports the Administration's effort to submit a 
grant application to the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to acquire the 
Sheldon/Mead Road property and supports the use of the Green Space Millage Funds as 
the match.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS
Mr. Hartner presented examples of potential GSAB logos for discussion.  A 
GSAB logo could be placed on signs to mark boundaries of GSAB properties 
and to educate the public.  Members will bring suggestions to the next GSAB 
meeting. 
 
Mr. Hartner also distributed flyers regarding the City's Festival of the Hills 
celebration, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Borden Park from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
