Chairperson Peterson called the Green Space Advisory Board meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

The meeting did not start at the Meldon Lane property due to inclement weather.

Committee Members Peter Beightol, Jayson Graves and Ken Elwert provided previous notice that they would be unable to attend and asked to be excused.

Approval of Minutes - Regular Meeting - August 28, 2018

A motion was made by Gauthier, seconded by Leach, that the minutes be Approved as presented. The motion carried by the following vote:

Resolved that the Green Space Advisory Board hereby approves the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of August 28, 2018 as presented.

Matt Einheuser gave an update on Niswander stewardship. They started and finished phragmites treatment for the season. Staff met with Niswander, Jeff Bridgland has left and they wanted a smooth transition. Steve Niswander has taken over for the time being and Becky will be taking over once she returns from maternity leave. At the Ruby Green Space they have been working on the prairie restoration. 

Einheuser said all signs have been installed, with the exception of Innovation Hills and the extra at Harding. 

Einheuser reported that the Ruby Extension passed the phase one, and was accepted by city council. 

Einheuser spoke with DPS about the Lifetime Fitness project. It is out to bid and they are hoping it will be completed this year. 

Tim Gauthier asked about the property near Rochester College. Matt Einheuser responded that he looked into it and it is owned by Rochester College. 

Susan Bowyer, Ph.D. mentioned that four people had been nominated for the vacant position. Council will vote at the next meeting. Their candidate questionaires are included in the City Council agenda.

Second Saturday Green Space Hikes

Heidi Morris said the hikes have gone remarkably well. The last scheduled hike is October 13. Morris  would like to continue the monthly hikes. Discussion ensued regarding improvements to the hikes. 

Green Space Property Encroachment and Future Outreach 

Matt Einheuser doesn’t have much of an update. The risk assessment of 

trees along the boundary will be an opportunity to bring up encroachment issues to the property owners. Darlene Janulis mentioned bringing up the city ordinance about dumping to the property owners. Discussion ensued.

Meldon Lane Property Nomination

Matt Einheuser talked through the scoring sheet. Darlene Janulis thought it was worth our while to pursue it at the right price. Discussion ensued. The general consensus is to hold off on making decisions until the committee has had an opportunity to walk the property. They scheduled a walk on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 and will meet at city hall at 5:45pm.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 6:00 pm. 

There being no further business to discuss, Chairperson Peterson adjourned the meeting at 7:15 p.m.
