CALL TO ORDER

Chairperson Carvey called the Green Space Advisory Board meeting to order ‎

at ‎7‎:‎02 ‎p‎.‎m‎.‎

Chairperson Carvey distributed literature regarding open spaces from a meeting ‎

he attended at Oakland County on Thursday, January ‎17‎, ‎2012‎.‎

Update on green space boundary signs‎

Mr‎. ‎Mike Hartner, Director of Parks & Forestry, noted that the bids for the ‎

carsonite boundary markers are due from prospective vendors on Thursday, ‎

January ‎26‎, ‎2012 ‎at ‎5‎:‎00 ‎p‎.‎m‎. ‎The goal is to have them ready for installation by ‎

the spring thaw‎.‎

Member Tilove presented a letter drafted by Member Loebs to be sent to ‎

property owners located next to city‎-‎owned green space parcels informing them ‎

that boundary markers will be installed by the City to delineate green space ‎

boundaries from their private property‎. ‎

Discuss second annual discovery hike‎

Member Tilove recognized the Parks staff for their assistance with the ‎2011 ‎

Discovery Hike‎. ‎She stated that the City of Rochester is permitting the ‎

Michigan Green Team to host a Green Living Expo on June ‎22 ‎through June ‎

24‎, ‎2012 ‎and that there will be no Earth Day Celebration in Rochester‎. ‎After ‎

much discussion, the Board concluded that they would not be able to participate ‎

in a three‎-‎day expo due to conflicting schedules at that time of year‎.‎

Ms‎. ‎Tilove presented a comprehensive outline of topics regarding the ‎2012 ‎

Discovery Hike‎. ‎The following is a summary of the board consensus‎:‎

* ‎The date will be Saturday, May ‎19‎, ‎2012 ‎from ‎10 ‎a‎.‎m‎. ‎to ‎2 ‎p‎.‎m‎. ‎The focus will ‎

be on stewardship‎. ‎

* ‎The participation‎/‎raffle cards will be used again due to their success‎. ‎A flyer ‎

will be mailed to last year's hikers announcing the second annual discover hike‎. ‎

Discussion included pros and cons of requiring each hiker to visit every parcel ‎

in order to enter the raffle‎. ‎It may be possible to provide signage and‎/‎or an ‎

information table at Diversion Street for an east entrance to the hike‎. ‎It was ‎

suggested to promote the Rivercrest parcel as a ‎"‎bonus stop‎" ‎on the route ‎

because it cannot be conveniently intertwined on the hike‎. ‎

* ‎Mr‎. ‎Mike Hartner, Director of Parks & Forestry volunteered to provide a ‎

single map depicting all city‎-‎owned green space parcels for the convenience of ‎

hikers‎.‎

* ‎Other important items are publicity, the need for more volunteers, and the ‎

expenses of the supplies which include printing banners, flyers, signs and ‎

providing water for the hikers‎.‎

* ‎It was suggested that everyone meet for an early morning ‎"‎breakfast briefing‎" ‎

on the hike day‎.‎

with the exception of February, March, and April which will be at ‎8‎:‎00 ‎PM, ‎1000 ‎

Rochester Hills Drive, Rochester Hills, Michigan, Oakland County; with the ‎

understanding that any meeting dates conflicting with holidays or elections will ‎

be scheduled as needed‎. ‎The ‎2012 ‎meeting dates are as follows‎:‎

February ‎28‎, March ‎27‎, April ‎24‎, May ‎22‎, June ‎26‎, July ‎24‎, August ‎28‎, September ‎

Discuss ‎2012 ‎note taker for meetings‎

Chairperson Carvey opened the floor for someone to volunteer to be the note ‎

taker for ‎2012‎. ‎Member Loebs volunteered‎. ‎The Board expressed their ‎

appreciation and also thanked Member Gauthier for his service over the past ‎

three years as note taker‎.‎
