The City of Rochester Hills is taking every measure possible to protect the public and City personnel, during this public health crisis caused by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Today, Governor Whitmer issued a Stay Home order, which orders Michigan residents to stay at home except for essential purposes and telling non-essential businesses to stop asking employees to report to work.

The City administration is rightly focused on maintaining city operations in a way that protects public health during this time. Article III, Section .01, (A)(iii), of the Rochester Hills City Council Rules of Procedure empowers the Council President, with the concurrence of the Vice President, to cancel meetings due to a lack of agenda items. After a review of the agenda items submitted by staff, Council Vice President Dr. Susan Bowyer and I do not believe there are a sufficient number of agenda items to justify holding the March 30, 2020 City Council meeting. Our next regular City Council meeting will be April 13, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.

On March 18, 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-15 to temporarily change the Open Meetings Act to allow public bodies to conduct their meetings electronically, while also facilitating public participation, until April 15, 2020. City Council and staff are working to conduct our future meetings electronically in compliance with the Executive Order.

As always, the health, safety and welfare of our residents and City staff is our top priority. The Rochester Hills City Council will continue to transact business during this public health emergency in a way that meets the needs of residents, while also ensuring that meetings remain open, accessible and transparent to the public. I wish you all good health and safety as we get through this difficult time together.
